When we take time to praise God for the things He has done for us and given to us,
God’s power changes our lives. The storm clouds of life in all their many forms
that have a tendency to block out the sunshine of the love of God, give Him praise
and glory anyway. When doubt threatens to draw our attention away from our faith
in God’s goodness, let’s turn our gaze to Jesus. When life is rocking us, and we
feel seasick, it is important to offer praise and thanksgiving to God from the depths
of our hearts. It may feel like God is not giving us anything to
praise Him for,
but He is greater than any problem we face. Focusing on God’s character will help
us rise above all destructive influences in our lives. Praise Him in all things,
and we will see the strength He gives us to persevere. Focus on the good of God.
Stop trying to fix it yourself and fix your eyes on God. When we focus on God and
how good God is, all bad things disappear.

In His Grasp,
Pastor Missy.

My friends, we have lost two church members to death in as many weeks. We prayed
for Betty Johnson and Graham Anthony each week and they went to glory. I held services
for Betty on the 29th of September, and charter member Graham died September 30th
in Lake City, FL.
One of our greatest strengths as a church family at Striplin Terrace
is our love for one another. I know you will hold these families in your prayers.
We are a people of hope: in the truth of resurrection, in being reunited with those
in the faith who have gone before us and the hope that being a Christ-believer brings
to us while we are here. We give God thanks that Jesus conquered sin, death and
hell when he rose again to new life. We give God thanks that we will one day see
Jesus face-to-face and those who we miss one fine day.

In His Grasp,
Pastor Missy

When we celebrate Holy Communion at our common table, we gather to share a common
loaf and we drink from the common cup, something miraculous occurs. We leave our
arguments from the morning about getting here on time, we let go of the grudges
we hold and the misgivings we have and enter a place of mutual vulnerability and
trust, the place where we are equally loved, valued and respected. This is a moment
when a vulnerable God invites a vulnerable people to share a peaceful meal. Breaking
bread bans fear and we are closer to God. As we gather at the Table of Christ today,
we enter a moment of renewal and reconciliation through the remembrance of the Lord’s
Last Supper. As Jesus meets us here to refresh us to do his work in the world.

Psalm 101:1-4-“I will sing of mercy and justice; To You, LORD, I will sing praises.
I will carefully attend to the blameless way. When will You come to me? I will walk
within my house in the integrity of my heart. I will set no worthless thing before
my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not cling to me. A perverse
heart shall leave me; I will know no evil.”
Proverbs 20:19-“One who goes about as
a slanderer reveals secrets; Therefore do not associate with a gossip.”

Sometimes, we forget that even saying something we consider good news about someone
else without their permission can be unappreciated by that person. One guard against
saying something we shouldn’t say, is to remember that it is solely their story
to tell. If they give us permission, it is not gossip or revealing something they
would not rather have others talking
about.

When we are in a place where confidentiality is expected, then we can speak about
the needs of those who have given us permission to do so for their prayer requests.
Then we are edifying that person because they know that prayers are being lifted
up on their behalf, but that only what they have given permission for is spoken.
We must take our responsibility to speak on behalf of others seriously. We would
expect the same consideration for ourselves. When we gather to pray in Prayer Matters
or in worship, it is a godly responsibility to be accountable for what we reveal
about the lives of others.

In His Grasp,
Pastor Missy
