When we celebrate Holy Communion at our common table, we gather to share a common loaf and we drink from the common cup, something miraculous occurs. We leave our arguments from the morning about getting here on time, we let go of the grudges we hold and the misgivings we have and enter a place of mutual vulnerability and trust, the place where we are equally loved, valued and respected. This is a moment when a vulnerable God invites a vulnerable people to share a peaceful meal. Breaking bread bans fear and we are closer to God. As we gather at the Table of Christ today, we enter a moment of renewal and reconciliation through the remembrance of the Lord’s Last Supper. As Jesus meets us here to refresh us to do his work in the world.
